Is Church Just a "Service?"
Do you need an oil change or a car repair? How about some dry cleaning or a new pair of shoes? Are you feeling ill? Make a quick appointment to see the doctor and don't forget to stop by the pharmacy on the way home. There is a quick fix it seems for every problem we have nowadays.
Has Church become just another "fix" for the problems we have in life? Have people come to see Church as just another service that is offered to them where they can fix themselves spiritually? Ever wonder why we call it a Church "service?" Things have really changed over the years or have they? It reminds of the 10 lepers in Luke 17.
Back in the day Jesus ran into 10 men who were lepers. They all begged Jesus for mercy and He healed every one of them. They all ran off to get on with their lives, but one of the lepers returned to give Jesus thanks for his healing. Jesus at this point makes the famous statement, "Were there not 10 cleansed? Where are the nine?" Only one realized that Jesus had so much more to offer than just a one time service.
Have we been using the Church as a self-service station? Filler up and we're on our happy way? It's time that the Church and its users realize that we are a full-service station. Church is not just some place we stop when we need something. Church is a family, and a way of life! Don't miss out on what the Church has to offer. Get connected; get involved; get the abundant life God promised us. Don't just stop by. Take off your shoes and stay awhile : - )
