"Looking Ahead" At the Last Supper Jesus encouraged his disciples to remember him. When you celebrate the Feast of Passover do not forget me. Don't forget about the One whose sacrifice made it possible for every man, woman, boy, and girl to be saved from sin's curse. If there was one thing the Lord Jesus would have us do this Passover week it would be remember Him. What was the purpose behind Christ's demand to be remembered? Was it so we could remember what an awful price He paid for our salvation? Was it so we could become His continuing fan club? Why did Jesus make this request? I believe he made the request so we wouldn't forget. Christ asked his disciples to remember His Passion so they wouldn't forget His promise. Christ's mission was not to come, suffer, and allow the world to make a fool of Him. His mission was to deliver the price for humanity's deliverance from the curse of sin. His mission was to offer us the greatest promise ever made. Don't forget my Passion! If you forget my Passion you'll forget the promise of present and future friendship with me. If you forget my Passion you'll forget there is more to life. If you forget my Passion you'll forget the promised celebration in Heaven. If you forget my Passion you'll forget my promise to return. This Passover week don't forget that someone paid an awful price to offer us a promising future. Sometimes we have to look back to clearly see our future. Our church is celebrating 60 years of ministry to this community. It's time to look back. It's time to remember the sacrifices made by our founders and elders. They built this church and paid for its establishment. But they didn't sacrifice so we could just be another fan club. They didn't just leave us a rich heritage to bathe ourselves in from time to time. They left us with a promise. They left us with a hope. As we look back on the sacrifices of 60 years let's remember this church is here for a reason. They sacrificed so we could reach for the promise of greater things. With an eye to the past let's march toward the goal with a fresh cadence. With our eyes on those who sacrificed before us let's awaken with renewed fervor and vigor. With an inner stirring let our hearts beat with excitement and desire. A price was paid. A promise was given. Don't let the sacrifice go unanswered! Look ahead on this 60th year anniversary. The promise of a new day is before us. The promise is unto us. Look ahead! Pastor Robert Morse |
